Week 7 NFC North Recap

Analysis Featured

Week 7 in the NFL was a doozy! Big divisional matchup took place where nobody cheated and the Packers took on a feisty Texans squad missing Nico Collins.

Lions 31 Vikings 29 (no cheating happened, all holds were proper calls and all non-holds proper calls)

The Lions dominated the Vikings despite the score looking close here. Detroit started with a 3 and out from a 2nd down sack (against the backup RG) and Campbell went for an ill-advised (this time) fake punt. The fake punt failed and the Vikings got a short field. Aaron Jones broke left and rumbled 30 yards for a shocking TD for Minnesota. 7-0 Bad Guys

Lions still were toying with the Vikings and went 3 and out again. Another sack was the issue on the drive as Decker whiffed on a block. Vikings got the ball and drove into Lions territory but the Lions held. However, the rookie kicker for the Vikings is good and nailed a 57 yarder. 10-0 Vikings

Lions with another 3 and out but then forced a Vikings 3 and out. Vikings were cheating with 2 holds and false start to ruin their drive. Lions got the ball and drove 69 yards for the score. Gibbs had a game breaking 45 yard TD rush with no holds detected on the run. 10-7 Bad Guys over Lions

Vikings got one first down but then were forced to punt on good Lions defense again (even missing Hutch). Lions got the ball and the offense got hot. 83 yard drive and Goff hit St Brown for the perfect 35 yard TD pass on his 3rd catch of the drive. 14-10 Lions.

Vikings had a chance to respond but future all pro Brian Branch had a picture perfect interception on Darnold. Lions got the ball and drove 72 yards again with a Gibbs 8 yard run on 3rd and 7 from 8. 21-10. Vikings did nothing in 2 plays before the half on great clock management by the Lions.

Vikings showed signs of life though to start the 3rd with the ball. 80 yard drive. Vikings did fumble but luckily were out of bounds or Branch would have had a scoop and score. Justin Jefferson is good and this was his one big drive on the 3rd and 8 25 yard TD diving catch.

Lions weren’t done though. 70 yard 9 play response as Goff is Mr. Perfect. Kalif Raymond big first down catch and Tim Patrick a 22 yarder. Raymond catches the 21 yard TD on 3rd and 6 for the 28-17 lead.

Vikings get another field goal drive to pull within 8. Lions got one first down but then a sack killed the drive. Basically if the Vikings didn’t get home, the Lions burnt toast their secondary.

Vikings add another field goal drive 28-23 with 6 minutes.

Lions ready to just run out the clock but fluke Montgomery fumble and scoop and score by Ivan Pace. 29-28 after a missed 2 pointer (big miss).

Lions 3 and out on next drive but more great clock management by Detroit and Campbell. Vikings 3 and out with huge Lions defensive stand. Detroit drives 44 yards, runs down the clock and kicks the winning field goal. Vikings got 2 more plays but the game ended with Nwoske sacking Darnold for the Lions 4th sack of the game (even with 4 EDGE players hurt). Lions own this division. The only reason this game was close was the fake punt and fluke scoop and score TD for Vikings. 31-29 Detroit. Shooter melt Monday.

Goff another 140+ rating. Gibbs monster day. St Brown 112 yards and TD, Lions 4 sacks and good coverage all day

Lions 5-1 to host Titans. Vikings 5-1 in 2nd place travel to LA to play the Rams on Thursday night.

Packers 24 Texans 22

Green Bay got a first down to Doubs to start the game but then Love threw a pick. Hey it’s Bert Favre. Texans got a short field but the Packers D held strong for a field goal. 3-0 Texans

Green Bay 3 and out followed by 7 play Texans drive but still a punt. Green Bay had a very long field but drove 92 yards to take the lead. Green Bay mixed it up with weapons but Tucker Kraft got the diving 14 yard TD. Big Deal Rejoice! 7-3 Packers

Texans 3 and out punt but Packers muff the punt. Texans very short field and drive 11 yards for the TD with two Mixon rushes. Green Bay answers with a 70 yard TD drive to re-take the lead 14-10. More special teams blunders for Green Bay on a big return by the Texans. Texans move 23 yards but settle for the field goal and cut the score to 14-13 Packers. Love wasn’t done being Favre and threw a 2nd pick and now has 8th to lead the league. Texans drive 55 yards and take the lead 19-14 but miss the 2 pointer (spoiler) which would be costly (like the Vikings missing in their game).

Green Bay 3 and out and Texans take the lead at half 19-14.

Texans 3 and out to start the 2nd half. Packers drive 71 yards and Jacobs gets an 8-yard passing TD from Love. 21-19 Packers. Texans 3 and out, Packers 3 and out, Texans 6 play punt, Packers 3 and out, Texans 5 play punt, Packers 4 play punt. Defensive second half.

Texans last chance and drive 45 yards to take the lead with a FG 22-21 Texans. Love wakes up and drives them 44 yards and new kicker/sexual assaulter Brandon McManus nails the game winning field goal. Packers 24 Texans 22.

Packers 5-2 travel to lowly Jacksonville in Week 8. Easy Packer win coming.

Bears (4-2) off the bye at Commanders 5-2 (with Jayden Daniels week to week) in Week 8.

Lions in first place and owns the North.
