Week 2 Recap: This is Fine

Analysis Featured

I don’t like this. Week 2 is in the books and we are getting more information on our favorite teams. Lets’ take a look at this hot action from the NFC North.

Packers 16 Colts 10

The Packers hosted the lowly Colts and put on a show on defense and running the ball. Malik Willis played for the injured Jordan Love (MCL) and did just enough to help secure the win. Green Bay has to be happy nabbing a win without Love on the field. Jacobs worth the money so far.

Opening drive field goal for Green Bay and a forced 3 and out on the Colts. Green Bay followed that up with an 82 yard drive with lots of rushing. However, Willis found Wicks for the 14 yard TD to go up 10-0. Colts were intercepted by McKinney (another good FA signing) but the Packers fumbled in the red zone. Punts galore ended the first half.

Colts started with the ball and got into Packer territory but couldn’t convert a 4th down. Green Bay took the short field for a field goal. Colts finally got on the board with 54 yard FG drive. Packers 3 and out but the Colts missed a big field goal on the next drive and didn’t get back in the game. Green Bay made the Colts pay with another FG drive for the 16-3 lead. Richardson was picked again by Eric Wilson. Green Bay tried to put the nail in the coffin but Narveson missed 45 yarder. The Colts had life and marched down the field for the TD. Colts defense did it’s job and forced a 3 and out quickly. Colts had a chance but Richardson was picked for the 3rd time on the day by rookie Evan Williams. Ball game.

Packers 1-1 and head to the Titans (0-2) next Sunday at 1 ET.

Vikings 23 49ers 17. WTF

The Vikings are 2-0 folks and might may have a defense under Brian Flores. Sure the 49ers didn’t have McCaffery and Deebo got hurt but still impressive by the Vikings.

The Vikings blocked a punt for a short field and struck first with a field goal. The 49ers drove into Vikings territory but couldn’t convert a 4th down from the 2 yard line. This was crucial as the Justin Jefferson took over with a 97 yard TD and a 10-0 Vikings lead. What a swing!

49ers turned the ball over on downs again at mid field but the Darnold threw a pick to squander the opportunity. The 49ers got back in it with a 65 yard TD drive and 10-7 Vikings lead. The Vikings responded with a FG drive before half for the 13-7 lead.

3rd Quarter was full of punts but the Vikings picked Purdy for a very short field. Vikings scored in one play on a 10 yard pass from Darnold to Nailor. 20-7 Vikings. The 49ers fumbled on the next drive and the Vikings drove down the field but couldn’t put the 49ers away as they fumbled at the 1. 49ers in turn drove 99 yards to cut the game to 20-14.

The Vikings offense responded big time with a 6 minute 46 second field goal for the two score lead. 23-14 Vikings. 49ers tried to get back in it and got a late FG but didn’t get the onside. Vikings win 23-17 and are 2-0. Vikings host Texans (2-0) next week.

Tampa Bay 20 Detroit 16. Boooooooo

The Lions lost another Week 2 game at home (like 2023). This time it was to Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers.  Tampa started with the ball and a very questionable 47 yard DPI on rookie Terrion Arnold got the Tampa Bay to the 5 yard line. Detroit held to a field goal in the red zone. 3-0 Tampa

Detroit got screwed by the refs on the next play. Lions went deep middle to Jameson Williams who got clotheslined and no DPI was called. Goff was picked instead. Huge swing in the game early. Tampa got the short field and hit a 55 yard field goal after good defense from Lions with a Hutch sack. 6-0 Tampa and should have been 3-3 at minimum.

Detroit responded with a 67 yard drive (on a 50 yard bomb to Jameson) but fizzled in the redzone (theme of the day). 6-3 Tampa.

Lions forced a punt and another long Lions drive deep into Tampa territory. You guessed it. Field goal. 6-6

Tampa ended the field goal wars with a 70 yard TD drive. 3rd and 10 huge completion to Godwin. 2nd and 9 Godwin. 1st and 10 at Detroit 41, 41 yard TD pass to Godwin. Oh my Godwin, can you cover him please. 13-6 Tampa

Lions 11 play 30 yard drive. I didn’t know you could only go 30 yards in 11 plays but Detroit punted in Tampa territory even after converting a fake punt and another 4th down. Detroit defense was mad and Brin Branch made a great play to pick Baker Mayfield. Lions drove deep into Bucs territory but were going to settle with a field goal. Lions went to spike it but the field goal team was coming onto the field. Uh oh. 10 second run off. Half ends without a field goal chance. You have to be Buccing kidding me. That’s what I said with my children around.

Lions get the ball and drove 57 yards to start second half. Short field goal. 13-9. Lions force 3 and out and then finally take charge. 68 yard TD drive of beauty with firsts to Jameson, Gibbs rush, La Porta, St Brown. Montgomery capped it with a 1 yard TD. 16-13 Lions.

Tampa Bay responded with some Baker running for a 70 yard drive. Face mask by Arnold. Free 15 yards. Baker scramble for 11 yards on 3rd and 4 from a should be sack. Baker scramble for 11 yards for the TD juking Rodriguez. 20-16 Bucs

Lions 5 play drive punt but Bucs 4 play drive punt. Defense was tightening. Detroit drove into Bucs red zone again but Goff terrible throw to middle of field and picked. Bucs 4 play punt and Lions drive deep into Bucs red zone. Turnover on downs going for it down 4. Bucs 3 and out late gives the Lions one more chance. Lions march to Bucs red zone and another turnover downs with a terrible throw on 4th down. Woof. Bucs win 20-16. Detroit 1-1 and at Arizona (1-1) next week.

Texans 19 Bears 13 on Sunday Night Football

Texans field goal drive to start. Bears answer with a FG. Texans go 77 yards for the TD up 10-3. Bears 3 and out and Texans FG drive up 13-3. Another Bears punt followed by a Texans punt. Bears go 49 yards and score with a 2 yard Herbert TD. Texans get a FG before half for the 16-10 lead.

Each team exchanged punts for each of their first 3 drives of the second half. Caleb Williams picked for short field and Texans FG up 19-10. Caleb Williams another pick but Texans 3 and out after. Bears didn’t take advantage with a 3 and out. Texans fumble and the Bears get back in the game with a 61 yard TD drive. 19-13 Texans. Texans 3 and out gives the Bears a chance but a turnover on downs ends the game. 19-13 Texans win. Bears 1-1 and at Indianapolis (0-2) next week.
