Week 12 NFC North Recap

Analysis Featured

Week 12 wraps up in the NFC North with 3 winners and one loser. Let’s take a peak of the game day action.

Lions 24 Colts 6

The Lions defense is good folks. No matter the injuries or opponent, Detroit is 2nd in PPG defense through 11 games.  Colts had a strong opening drive marching right down the field. But the Lions held strong in the red zone and Matt Gay kicked a 27 yard field goal. 3-0 Colts. Lions responded with a 7 play drive but a DeForest Buckner sack of Goff ended that drive and forced the Lions punt. Colts got one first down but then punted on the next drive. Lions offense got the ball at their own 40 yard line and marched right down the field to take the lead for good on the day.  Tim Patrick 27 yarder and lots of Gibbs rushing for the score put the Lions up 7-3.

Colts did respond with another nice drive. 3rd and 3 first down to Adonia Mitchell and a 39 yarder by Alec Pierce burning backup CB Kindle Vildor (nightmares of NFC Champ game) got the Colts back in FG range. Lions held strong again and Colts FG moved it to 7-6.

Detroit responded to the field with a TD drive. 9 plays 70 yards with 2 first down passes by Goff and a first down run by Montgomery. Montgomery punched it in from 6 yards away and 14-6 lead. Colts 4 play punt and Lions 5 play punt ended the half 14-6 Lions.

Detroit got the ball to start the second half and drove right down the field. However, Lions were stopped in red zone and stuffed on 4th and 2. Colts ball down 14-6 still. However, Colts 4 play punt did nothing with more good Lions defense. Lions drove 10 plays 79 yards and Gibbs got his second TD of the day. 21-6 Lions. Colts punt, Lions punt, Colts punt, Lions punt. Defense was keeping the Lions up 15. Detroit got good field position after the Colts punt and drove 16 yards and then Mr. Perfect Jake Bates nailed a 56 yard FG. 24-6 Lions after a turnover on downs by the Colts. Lions win and first team to beat the Colts by 3 scores this season.

Next up Lions host Bears on Thanksgiving.

Packers 38 49ers 10

Packers played well and forcesd some turnovers on the 49ers and their backup QB. 49ers were missing Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, Brock Purdy and Javon Hargrave so this was expected. Packers kept the 49ers around but ultimately got a big dominating home win.

Jordan Love 107 rating with 163 yards and 2 TDs but Jacobs went off rushing with 106 yards and 3 TDs. CMC and 49ers held to only 2.8 YPC. Big Packers win. 4th time in 6 games, Packers got to face 49ers with backup 49ers QB (4-0).

Next Up Packers host Dolphins on Thanksgiving at night on NBC.

Vikings 30 Bears 27 OT

Vikings and Sam Darnold looked good until the final 2 minutes of the game. Bears scored 11 points after an onside kick to tie the game at 27. Vikings got a big sack in OT and the Vikings marched down late in OT and got the easy FG for the win. Crisis adverted and Vikings leave Chicago with a win.

Sam Darnold 330 yards and 116 QB rating with 2 TDs. Caleb 340 yards and 103 QB rating with 2 TDs as well. Vikings 4.6 YPC and Bears 3.5 YPC.

Next up Vikings host the Cardinals (6-5) next Sunday. Bears go to Lions on Thanksgiving (1230 ET CBS)
