Scooped: Mini Camp

News

NFL teams are in the full swing of mini-camp. Let’s take a look around the league and in the NFC North.

Late Signings and Cuts
Melvin Ingram earned a four year 66 million dollar deal before the franchise tag deadline in mid-July from the Los Angeles Chargers. Ingram gets 16.5 million in new money with 42 of the 66 guaranteed. Ingram is 28 which should make the Ziggy Ansah negotiations (also 28) interesting.

Jeremy Maclin signed a deal with the Ravens after surprisingly being cut by the Chiefs. Maclin earned a two year 11 million dollar deal.

Julian Edelman also earned a two year 11 million deal with some other incentives to finish his career in New England. Edelman was on the last year of his deal and is now signed through 2019. Edelman is 31 this season and will be 33 in the final year of his deal.

Eric Decker and David Harris were surprisingly cut by the Jets too. The Jets are going to suck bad this year. Decker is coming off a torn labrum (same as Taylor Decker) and had hip problems as well. Buyer beware with Decker; but he was healthy for OTAs.

King Dunlap retired from football which takes an option at left tackle off the table. The Lions signed long time backup Tony Hills at tackle. GM Bob Quinn appears to be set to go with in-house options Joe Dahl, Cornelius Lucas and Corey Robinson for now. Will Beatty and Ryan Clady are still on the market but are oft-injured too. Cyrus Kouandijo, former 2nd round Bills pick, visited but was not signed at tackle.

Anybody over six years of experience doesn’t practice for the Packers during mini-camp.

Injury Updates
The Lions had a major injury to Taylor Decker (torn labrum) in OTAs. Decker should be out 4-6 months so should miss anywhere from 4 to 12 games this season. Theo Riddick (wrists), TJ Lang (hip), Corey Robinson (foot), Armonty Bryant (knee), Tahir Whitehead (knee) aren’t practicing either. The Lions need to get healthy in the next few months.

Kyle Long, Cameron Meredith, Danny Trevathan and Zach Miller have injuries but should be back by training camp.

Dennis Pitta hurt his hip again and his career is done for the Ravens. The Ravens get Ben Watson back though and signed Jeremy Maclin to make up for it. Baltimore lost nickel corner Tavon Young as well but just drafted Marlon Humphrey and added Brandon Carr in free agency.

Eddie Lacy made his weight goal and earned an extra 55,000. Lacy is the Oprah of the NFL.
