The NFL season has again come to a close. With the end of the season, that also means that the Pantheon will be closing its doors as well. However, before the doors are officially closed, let’s take a look back at this past week, and the season in total.
Even though quite a few of the resident fans of the Packers did not call their shots (I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t…), there were still six more points scored this week. That brings the grand total through these playoffs to 34 total points. That is a very successful run through the playoffs for our prognosticators. Scoring six more points also gives us a nice way to end the year as it would be terrible if there were no points scored to end the season. Well, terrible for the Pantheon, at least.
Overall, this has been another good year for the Pantheon., with some memorable occasions that I would like to revisit.
To start, there were 53 different prognosticators who called their shots this year. This is down from the 70 that attempted it last year, but is still a great number. From those 53, there were 279 points scored for the Pantheon this year. Again, we may not have reached the record set last year (413), but it was still fun.
Week two seems to be a magical week for us, for some reason. Last season saw the record set for the most ever names added into the Pantheon in one week with 34. The record stood for exactly one year, as it was broken this year during week two. This year, the bar was set to 39 total points, and it will be fun to see if that record will stand for another season or more.
The switch to the points system at the beginning of the year also had an interesting effect on the standings. The race to be in the top five was actually a lot closer than it seems. The top three people on the leaderboard all benefited from the extra points given by correctly predicting a final score. That’s right, Maized, natesweet, and MKE all correctly predicted a final score at some point this season. Without those extra points, the race would have been much tighter.
There were three more prognosticators that also correctly predicted a final score, bringing the total for the season to six. Joining those three were DanOnWis23, jmac3444, and thebaskett. Congratulations to all of you!
Also of note, that correct final score prediction was the fourth for jmac3444 over the last two seasons, giving him the most of all the prognosticators. That’s amazing!
There were also many other fun times this year, but sadly, all fun things must come to an end. And with that the Pantheon will begin to close its doors.
But before the doors are fully closed, read on one last time to find out just exactly who Nailed It!
Final score
These are the people who have (somehow) correctly predicted the final outcome of a game. The only shot that was called that could be considered more famous than these belongs to Babe Ruth. Bow down before their wisdom! (And make sure you ask them for next week’s lotto numbers.)
- None this week.
Scoring differential
These are the ones who correctly predicted the margin by which the victors would best their competition. These are also the ones to consult if you want to bet the spread.
- None this week.
Total combined score
These are those who somehow managed to pick the correct total score but did not have any clue in how the teams would actually get there. Still, if you want to bet an over/under, you could do worse than consulting with them.
- New England @ Seattle – FalconsFan0125, G & G, and thebaskett all correctly predicted that the teams would combine to score 52 points.
Winning team’s score
- New England @ Seattle – DanOnWis23, SDL, and Staffords_Glove all correctly predicted that the Patriots would win with a score of 28 points.
Against the grain
Oftentimes, our picks will be unanimous. However, there are those who will sometimes walk their own path.
- None this week.
The Final Standings
Although he gave it a noble effort, natesweet did not score a point this week, and thus was unable to finish his comeback attempt. That means that Maized and Confused finished this season in first place, with 16 total points. Congrats Maized!
One other thing of note that happened was FalconsFan0125, by scoring one more point this week, was able to move back into the top five. This seemed only fitting, given the fact that he was in the top five from week 1 all the way through to the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Now, as we wait for next season, let’s give ourselves a little congratulatory clap. Or not. Your choice.
