Cuts, Trades, ?, Profit

News

It is the offseason so instead of actual football we shall get news about football instead. Let’s take a look at all the happenings and transpirings.

Carson Wentz Trade

Wentz was traded to the Colts for 2021 3rd and 2022 2nd that could become a 1st round pick if Wentz plays 75% of the snaps or Colts make the playoffs. Big salary dump for the Eagles and the Colts reunited HC Frank Reich with Wentz to try and fix him. Solid trade for both teams and 2020 2nd round pick QB Jalen Hurts gets his chance in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Stafford deal looks so much better for Detroit but the Eagles and Colts got what they wanted.

Cuts

JJ Watt was the biggest cut so far demanding out of Houston. He frees up 17.5 million and will be highly sought after. He can sign now since he was a cut and won’t affect the compensatory pick formual. Watt is 32 but still a good player.

Packers cut ILB Christian Kirksey and RT Rick Wagner to save over 10 million in cap space. Green Bay is still about 10 million over even with this move and the Bakthiari restructure for 8 million in space.

The Panthers cut DE Stephen Weatherly, FS Tre Boston, punter Michael Palardy and restructured Center Matt Paradisis. They also cut long time 3-tech DT Kawaan Short. Rumor is the Panthers want to make a run at trading for DeShaun Watson.

Speaking of DeSeans, DeSean Jackson was cut by the Eagles for 4 million in cap space.

Falcons cut S Ricardo Allen and DE Allen Bailey for 10 million in cap space combined. They are still way over the cap.

Nick Easton was cut from the Saints and Brees reduced his salary to 1 million so he can retire and save the Saints over 30 million in cap space. Saints are still way way way over the cap. Extreme cap hell really.

High signing CB AJ Bouye (traded to Denver last year from Jacksonville) and DT Kyle Peko were bucked from the Broncos.

CAP Rumors and Tags

NFL moved the cap to a minimum of 180 million now. Many don’t think it will be above 185 million despite the NFL working on new tv deals now. 182-183 million plus carryover will be the cap for most teams but still to be decided by March 17.

Franchise tagging starts February 23. Let’s see if Kenny Golladay or Romeo Okwara get tagged. Maybe a famous tag n trade. Packers could tag Aaron Jones which would be fun for barking it up. Would the Bears tag Allen Robinson or Trubisky lol. Vikings could tag Anthony Harris a second time but that is not likely.

The end.
