Why Watch: The Raptors lead the NBA Eastern Conference by half a game over the Boston Celtics, and the Wizards, pretenders to the throne, are in fourth place. Both teams want to win and win now. They have players who play pretty good.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Utah Jazz

When: 9:30 C.S.T.
How to watch: ESPN
Why Watch: The Timberwolves are left fighting not just to maintain third place in the West, but a spot in the playoffs, without the inured Jimmy Butler (RIPIP). The Jazz went on a pre-all star game tear to get within two games of the final playoff spot. Plus, its on pretty late on a Friday, and you don’t have plans.

When: 7:00 C.S.T. (preliminaries), 9:00 p.m. C.S.T. (main card)
How to watch: PPV
Why Watch: Frankie Edgar is always exciting, and should get a real challenge from undefeated Brian Ortega. In the headliner, Cris “Cyborg” Justino Venancio will place the life of some poor Russian, Yana Kunitskaya, in extreme danger.
Sergey Kovalev vs. Igor Mikhalkin
What: Boxing, 12 rounds, title fight (Kovalev holds the WBO Light Heavyweight Title)
Where: The Theater at Madison Square Garden
When: 9:05 p.m. C.S.T.
How to watch: HBO, HBO Now, HBO GO
Why Watch: Kovalev is a legitimate fighter who once killed a man, and finally put the career of the great Bernard Hopkins on ice. On the other hand, you should not watch. Boxing actually has two legit fights on the same night. Its weird. Anyways, the other is more compelling. But you are the poors and don’t have Showtime, so watch this anyways.
Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz
What: Boxing, 12 rounds, title fight (Wilder holds the WBC Heavyweight Title)
Where: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
When: 8:00 p.m. C.S.T.
How to watch: Showtime
Why Watch: Both Wilder and Ortiz are undefeated heavyweight fighters (Wilder 39-0, 38 KOs; Ortiz 28-0, 24 KOs) with real knockout power. Wilder, an American, is the more dynamic and skilled fighter, and at 6’7″ with reach and athleticism is America’s best boxing prospect at heavyweight in years. Ortiz is a Cuban, so you can engage in rampant jingoism. Ortiz is also aging, at 39, and in order to win what would be his signature fight will need to go for broke. It should make for an exciting fight.
Meanwhile, in the background looms a fight between the United Kingdom’s Anthony Joshua and New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) is the man who finally sent Wladimir Klitchko into retirement in a terrific fight, by 11th round knockout, and is considered by many the “real” heavyweight champion in the era of alphabet soup belts. At 6’6″ he is a veritable man mountain after the likes of Kyle Long. Parker holds belts of his own, and at 24-0 with 20 KOs is a respectable challenger to the crown.
If both Wilder and Joshua hold up their end of the bargain, the best heavyweight fight in years is in the works between two physical specimens, one a brawler from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the other a limey bastard from Watford, England, by way of Nigeria. The former throws bombs like it is going out of style, the later has natural power and a smart, restrained approach towards executing opponents. I am excite. That’s why you got actual words.
